How to Reach Your Target Audience Again (With Your Web Content)

Before you reach your target audience.

Here’s a quick question.

What’s the difference between football in the US and the UK?

The use of hands.

In the UK, you get a card if you grab the ball and run like a madman.

In the US, you better grab the ball and run like your life depends on it.

A game with a ball and players on each side.

But different rules and definitely different target audiences.

As such, you’d use different approaches to market football in the US and the UK.

Here’s an example.

If you used the term “football” in the UK, people would think of soccer.

In the US, your target audience would think of something else entirely.

Which brings us to your website content.

Your content isn’t effective unless it reaches the right people.

You know, your target audience. Your tribe.

The people most interested in your offer.

But that’s not even it…

Say you started with a rock-solid plan that had all your bases covered.

You had your target audience right in the crosshairs.

You were about to pull the trigger then…

Nothing!

Nada!

Where did they go?

When and how did your target audience disappear?

You can no longer see them, and it makes you sick with worry.

The slump in your stats will not let you sleep soundly at night.

It haunts you, this problem.

And torments you the more you try to figure out what went wrong.

It was all good…

You were getting all forms of inquiries from every side.

People were really interested in what you had to say.

And your content made it easy to comment, download, sign up, and trial.

You had prospects by the leash, leading them to conversions like a boss.

Then one day, you changed something.

And now crickets live in your pipeline.

Your once vibrant tribe is gone.

Vanished into thin air!

And your well is as dry as bone in the Sahara.

The leads decreased or disappeared completely.

Now you are here trying to redeem yourself.

A sharp dip in stats jolts every webpreneur from the deepest of slumber.

But worry not. I have your back as always.

So, how do you reconnect with your target audience?

How do you regain the oh-so-sweet flow of inquiries?

Go Back to the Drawing Board

Remember how it all started?

When you were so green you didn’t know what actually worked?

Inevitably, you are exposed to other audiences as you create content.

This mix can easily confuse you, leading your efforts astray.

You are often tempted to create content for everyone visiting your site.

Even if some of them do not fit your target profile.

I know you want to help every Dick and Harry who shows up at your door.

It is tempting, especially at the start when you’re shooting out of the blue.

And while this is a well-meaning move, you risk losing your target audience.

You don’t want to go down this path.

You must have a target audience in mind.

The people you sought (and still seek) to help with your web content.

For this, go back to where you started.

Take time and reconstruct your audience profile.

Especially now that your website has been running for a minute.

Creating effective content means understanding for whom you’re writing.

Related: Define your target audience and create content with a bang.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Who is your ideal customer (and where do they hang out online)?
  • Who is your current customer, if any?
  • Why are you writing content?

Vistawriting.com receives visits from:

  • Bloggers
  • WordPressers
  • SEO/Internet marketing startups
  • Brick-and-mortar enterprises with WordPress websites
  • Writers
  • And so on

But is this my target audience? Nope.

I have a definite buyer persona I target.

And it’s the person most interested in creating effective web content.

But lack the skills or time to write for their blog.

Reach Out to Your Target Audience

Stay in touch and bring your audience along.

Maybe you changed your marketing strategy and lost your target audience.

Yeah, it is sad, but you didn’t know any better.

You were doing only what is best for your online business.

But here is the thing.

First, you should define your target audience.

Why?

It lets you create a solid foundation for your marketing strategy.

Also, it lets you create effective website content to scale traffic and revenue.

But creating effective content is only one part of the equation.

You need to reach out to your target audience by:

  • Connecting through social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), etc.
  • Networking with thought leaders in your niche.
  • Guest blogging, which is a brilliant way to reach your target audience.

And that’s it. That was quick.

I will keep working on this topic.

The goal is to create the Ultimate Target Audience guide.

You know, some pillar content stuff 😉
