I know, I know. Another one.
Another “how to reach your target audience” article.
But please indulge me: we all want the same thing.
You want your target audience to find your website, right?
So do I.
Here’s the thing.
You must’ve struggled with your target audience at least once.
That’s why you’re here.
Let’s blame a few things like:
- The greenhorn syndrome.
- Lethal firepower from competitors.
- Lack of knowledge.
- Trump.
- The Adjustment Bureau.
- Et cetera.
You know, things totally unrelated to reaching your target audience.
You can blame whatever you want.
But reaching your target audience is as easy as pie.
Especially online, where people actively look for your business.
But how do you reach your target audience in their kitchens?
How do you stay on top of their minds?
You know, like the usual items on the kitchen table?
The Kellogg’s and the Nestles. The Pink Ladies and Ketchup.
These tips are easy to digest but require a little effort to apply.
If you are chronically lazy, stop right here and hire a writer.
Here is the juice.
Appear (Blog Regularly On Your Site)
Eighty percent of success is showing up,
says Woody Allen, American filmmaker and actor.
Deconstructing Harry, anyone? This one gave me quite a chuckle.
But I digress.
I agree with Woody 100%.
Because I have proof showing up works.
Here’s the dealio.
Your target audience reads a whole lot of everything.
Plus, attention spans are shrinking, pundits say.
As such, your content must be your audience’s drug of choice.
The special fix they can’t live without.
Bikozulu does this perfectly by dropping a story every Tuesday.
Become the center of attention for your target audience.
Show up and post brilliant content consistently.
So much that they start expecting content from you.
They will start coming back for more.
And bring friends along. Ergo, the Bikozulu reference.
So, instead of reaching out, the audience comes to you.
Posting constantly also forces AI and search engines to notice you.
And the higher you appear in search results, the better.
Still don’t see why posting consistently is important?
Guest Blog (Create Content For Other Websites)
Say you run a SaaS website.
How would you reach your target audience?
How do you connect with other SaaS fans out here?
It’s simple.
You appear on other SaaS websites.
It’s ridiculously simple anyone might miss it.
But how?
You appear in the form of guest blogging.
To newbies, this is posting on websites where your audience thrives.
They will see it: your awesome guest post.
And click through they will, if you are convincing enough.
Guest blogging is an exchange. ‘Hey, have some of this nice content and I’ll have a slice of your audience,’
says, Not-King Julien, definitely not King Julien, Madagascar.
With a guest post, you reach your target audience where they already live.
Once on your website, you can lead the audience through your funnel.
Think of demo sign-ups and orders.
Or whatever you want. It’s up to you 🙂
Email (Yes, Get Close & Personal)
Stay in touch with your audience.
It is fun reaching your target audience through email.
Some scallywags say email is slow. Or dying.
And they are dead wrong in both cases.
Email marketing is alive and kicking.
It is an effective means of staying in touch.
And converting prospects into eager-to-pay customers.
Repeat loyal customers who keep your lights on.
See why you need a sign-up form on your website?
Your web content is an asset if it leads prospects to payment and back.
The content is ineffective if people get lost (exit) along the way.
Email marketing is your lucky savior.
First, you can capture leads (read: people) who would’ve never returned.
Then…
You can talk directly to your target audience whenever it is appropriate.
From the beginning.
Best use email to educate your audience.
Get in the habit of sharing useful content with your audience.
For instance, from our example, share SaaS tips with your audience.
With a few cleverly spun links in the emails, lead your target audience.
Any way you want.
For example, to your order, product, subscription page, etc.
Social Media
Many people want to run for the hills whenever I mention social media.
But you shouldn’t.
Unless, of course, you didn’t know social media rocks.
Both for memes and as a marketing channel.
Early WARNING: Don’t spam your audience with promotional “mijugla.”
Mijugla?
Yes
It’s what I call hyperbolic “marketese” or salesy content.
The objective is to appear as many times as possible.
But without overloading the audience with useless clutter.
Why don’t you try sharing motivational stuff instead?
Or that brilliant content asset you just created?
Or relevant tips about your niche?
And see how this goes.
There is an appropriate time for selling.
And you have paid ads for this.
You can begin on Facebook.
Once the page is up, move on to X and so on.
Try it and remember to track your metrics.
And for crying out loud, your family and friends aren’t your target audience.
Unless they buy your products, which is rare.
Don’t send your marketing content their way.
It’s a waste of effort and time.
Marko: Isn’t that counterproductive?
Me: What do you mean, Marko?
Marko: You see, I want to reach as many people as possible.
Me: Nah, Marko. You only need to reach your people.
Marko stares.
Me: I mean your target audience.
Marko: Ha-ha! You got me – you said “my people.”
His people meant family and friends.
Moving on.
Create a separate page for each online business. Don’t confuse us, banange.
Besides, it’s ridiculously simple.
Many social sites offer these pages (and mixed audiences) free.
Once the pages are up, share relevant tips. Don’t sell.
But take every opportunity to lead interested parties back to your website.
Where they can discover more of your awesome web content.
Which should then lead them to your offer, order, and sign-up forms.
You get it.
I have a feeling you do.
Contact Forms (Make It Easy To Reach You)
Want to reach your target audience almost instantaneously?
Make contacting you easy.
A simple “contact us” on your navigation menu won’t cut it.
Encourage anybody who visits your contact page to reach out.

Not the best of examples? Cut me some slack; I am still optimizing my contact page.
I might also add a contact widget in the sidebar to make it easier for users.
Specify when and why someone should contact you,
This eliminates the people you don’t want.
Yes, there are people you don’t want as contacts.
It also increases your form conversion rate.
You’ll have a better picture of the audience as more people contact you.
With the target audience’s pain points in mind, create:
- Better website content to attract even more prospects.
- Products/services they’ll gladly buy.
Linking
Wherever you go online, leave a link in the form of a comment, byline, or something else.
Keep sharing your business with the world, and your target audience will find their way to you.
No man is an island,
said John Donne.
There you go. This here is where I put my pencil down.
Oh no, I’m about to brag about how I write with a pencil nowadays.
I find it extremely fun.
It’s like the Macintosh technology of the writing world.
Been around for decades and still works like magic.
Plus, drawing becomes a breeze with a pencil in hand.
I should pinch myself and get back to the…
Conclusion
To reach your target audience wherever they are – in their kitchens, at work, Mars, anywhere – you first need some creative web content on your website.
How else will you receive the audience when they come to your site?
Then…
- Guest blog on other websites/blogs.
- Email the people who sign-up/order.
- Encourage your target audience to initiate contact.
- Use social media.
- Link with other relevant sites like a ninja.
What’s Next?
Head over to my contact page and drop me a line for whatever reason.
I’m glad to help if you have problems with your web content.
See you around.
